Zannier Hotels Sonop is a luxurious tented camp nestled at the Southern extremity of the Namib Desert, in the Hardap region, a hostile and vast desert land of Namibia. Designed as a refined British colonial experience from the 1920’s, this out-of-the-ordinary lodge offers a perfect retreat in a stunning panoramic desert landscape. Constructed on top of boulders, the ten spacious tents aim to offer a unique journey throughout. Richly furnished with antiques made of fine materials, colourful carpets and precious wood they are an invitation to live the life of yesteryear’s wealthy explorers. The sophistication of the lodge contrasts with the simplicity of the endless surroundings.
At Zannier Hotels Sonop everything is orientated towards the desert’s richness: all views are awe-inspiring and a large list of adventures allow guests to admire the desert’s genuine beauty at leisure. Every evening guests are invited to enjoy an opulent gastronomic experience, where silverware and candelabras set the mood, enhanced by black-tie and white gloves service. Flawless service and attention to detail characterize all facilities of the camp. With its warm atmosphere, the cocktail & cigar lounge evokes with subtlety the splendor of colonial interiors. For guest’s ultimate comfort, Zannier Hotels Sonop also offers a stunning spa, a fitness center and heated outdoor infinity pool, all facing the desert’s vastness. Many once-in-a-lifetime experiences bring a bygone era to life, including onsite stables which allow guests to explore the surroundings with horses.
Despite its extremely remote location, Zannier Hotels Sonop provides all the comfort of a five star property, allowing any visitor to enjoy a luxurious stay, taking care to themselves in our beautiful spa, while preserving the surrounding environment. More than its remoteness and outstanding views, Zannier Hotels Sonop’ spa stands out thanks to its indigenous approach. All the treatments and ablutions offered at Sonop Spa are traditionally inspired in and by Namibia. Most of them incorporate elements/materials of the surrounding environment, such as pure sand for scrubs (one of the thinnest and purest of Africa), stones, or plants (grasses, flowers and herbs). The spa products are not from an established brand, but are produced on our demand by local specialists based in the Northern part of the country. A selection of 7 to 8 oils is offered, made out of local plants such as Ontanga (seeds), Marula (seeds), Manila (filtered), Mankel or Oombeke Ximenia (traditional recipe).
The restaurant of Zannier Hotels Sonop has been conceived as a communal place where travelers can meet aner a long day of exploration in the desert. It is composed of a main tent overlooking the boundless desert, decorated as a luxurious living room. Guests can take their breakfasts, lunch and aperitif at leisure, either inside or outside on the two terraces. At night, a gala dinner is served in an adjacent area carefully kept secret from curious observers. Every evening, at 8pm precisely, a large, communal table in a prestigious setting reveals itself. Guests can live a unique gala night dinner in the middle of the Namib Desert. The lodge also features a cocktail bar in the style of a gentlemen’s club – an ideal place to end the evening and do some stargazing.
Despite being in a very isolated place, Zannier Hotels Sonop aims to offer the best products and services. Fresh ingredients – and when possible organic – are used, sourced by our head chef in person in Windhoek. In this remote environment, the goal is to surprise and delight all guests. The Explorer serves a Namibian cuisine with a gastronomic approach. A lavish .-la-carte breakfast is served every morning, with a strong English influence – to remind those bygone British explorers travelling across Africa. At lunch, a selection of dishes to share is served on the deck platform. Salad bowls, biltong and cold cut assortments, smoked fishes, stir-fried vegetables… all dishes are deliberately light and simple to all appearances. In the evening, guests can enjoy an outstanding 5-course dinner in their gala ourits (some can be lent for the occasion). Comfortably sat in the Victorian-style chairs around a large 7,5 meters-long communal table, they will live a magical experience, a lap of luxury. The dinner menu that changes everyday features a cold starter, a warm starter, a main course (with either a fish, meat or vegetarian dish) served with a side, a generous cheese platter and a homemade dessert. A suggested wine pairing menu is elaborated daily, to perfectly complement the dishes.
At Zannier Hotels Sonop, everything is orientated towards the desert. At each meal of the day, guests can eat while contemplating the surroundings. Food is another way for them to escape and indulge; to live a moment out of time. The interiors of the communal tents make everyone feel like a fortunate explorer. The imperfection of antique and rare objects displayed in the restaurant, and the nobility lent them by the passage of time, reinforce the feeling of exclusivity. Silverware and candelabras set the mood for the elegant gala-style dinner served with black-tie service – such that the entire occasion becomes an unforgettable gastronomic experience in the middle of the desert.
